IP Address Change.

Post by RatKnight on Thu Jan 01, 2009 5:04 pm

Dear Customer,

We deeply apologize for this decision. The economic times are hitting us much harder than we thought. We are going to be focusing our hardware upgrades and bandwidth usage in Texas. The vast majority of customers use Texas, even most European customers prefer Texas due to its centrality. SEA has been running at a loss.

The Good:

Texas uses RAID 10, tons of RAM, and many CPU cores. We plan on upgrading Texas with even more cores and RAM soon. Texas is a powerhouse when it comes to hardware resources and bandwidth. The bandwidth in Texas has more backbones than any other location. While we get the occasional route complaints in regards to Seattle and Washington DC, we get next to none when it comes to Texas (due to the multiple backbones). Texas is the perfect USA location.

The Bad:

This will require a change in IP address and the route will be slightly different, though not significant; Texas has the best routing.

Plans:

We plan on hosting Europe and Asia someday -- hopefully sometime in 2009.

If you wish to keep (and have it moved to Texas) or cancel your game server account , please create a support ticket for the \"Turkey\" category

Depending on your decision, we will provide you a new IP address as well as copy (rsync) your account into Texas. You can keep your SEA game server account still active until it goes down approximately 01/15/2009. This will give the oppurtunity to advertise your new Texas game server IP address while running SEA for a couple of weeks.

Please note the following policy:

EscapedTurkey.com reserves the right to change any game server\'s IP address for infrastructure and/or load balancing considerations.

So, there will be an IP address change on the server, however the change shouldn't be too noticeable. You guys might even get better pings with the new location Smile. I will inform you of the new IP as soon as I have it. We won't loose any data, and I will probably have the server up as soon as I get around to transferring the money into my paypal. I will let you guys know.

Rat

P.S. I will say, for the last 12 months I have had them, there have not been these problems. I guess just like the rest of us, they are running into some economic hurdles.

Ye the best thing would be to have two servers one in europe and one outside europe but thats not possible i think unless we buy another server Sad

Well, i suppose that if they do open up a datacenter in europe, I could have it transferred there. we'll see what happens.
